Prior to joining District Realty in 1994, Sol had a distinguished career as a lawyer with expertise in commercial real estate. Sol brings to District Realty a wealth of knowledge of Ottawa real estate, it’s zoning and history. He was a founding member and senior partner of a leading business and real estate law firm, and during his lengthy legal career, he specialized in commercial development law. Sol represented many leading development companies from Ottawa and across Canada. He was the Chair of the Committee of Adjustment for the City of Ottawa and active in the planning and development areas of his real estate law practice. In addition, he has been a philanthropic leader for the past 60 years, holding countless positions at various charitable agencies in Ottawa.

Steve began his real estate/property management career in 1973 while working for a local developer as a comptroller and property manager of over 1300 apartment units in Ottawa’s west end. In 1978 he became a real estate broker with Regional Realty, and soon advanced to managing the commercial division of that company in the mid-80s. Steve co-founded District Realty in 1987 and has grown its property management division to be one of the largest third-party management companies in Ottawa. An active community member and supporter of numerous local charities, Steve has served three terms as President of the Hellenic Community of Ottawa and currently sits on The University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation Board. He has served several terms as an adviser of The Metropolis Council of Canada, a national committee of the Greek Orthodox Church in Canada, being elevated to the position of Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, which is the highest position that can be achieved by a layperson within The Greek Orthodox Church Worldwide.

Jason Shinder began his career with District Realty in 1993 as an Assistant Property Manager and has since been involved in all aspects of the business, including working as a Sales Representative, Broker and Property Manager. During the more than 25 years he has worked with his partner Steve Ramphos, he has built District into one of Ottawa’s largest and most successful property management companies.

In 2006, Jason was awarded the Freiman Family Young Leadership Award and the Lawrence Greenberg Young Leadership Development Award in recognition of his outstanding community service. He has chaired several fundraising events, including the Jewish Community of Ottawa’s Annual Campaign. Additionally, Jason has been a Trustee on the Board at CHEO as well as the Jewish Community of Ottawa. His leadership in both the Ottawa real estate and non-profit communities continues to set him apart.

A graduate of Algonquin’s Architectural Technology Program (Honours) in 1988, Kelly also earned a Real Property Administrators Diploma from the Building Owners and Manager Institute International in 1999. He has worked for District for over 25 years, and since starting as a Residential Building Superintendent he has received numerous promotions and currently holds the position of Chief Operating Officer. Reporting to Jason and Steve, Kelly is responsible for all aspects of District Realty’s business including the direct management of District’s Commercial and Residential portfolio of properties, and the day-to-day operations of District Head Office. Kelly’s 26 years of architectural, engineering, construction, and management experience, backed by his unparalleled moral and ethical standards, is a solid foundation and asset to District Realty and its clients.

Mark has been a Financial Executive with commercial real estate firms in Halifax and Ottawa since 1992. During this time, he was directly responsible for financial reporting, tax planning, information systems, and operation management. His thorough experience and knowledge of the commercial real estate industry provides District Realty clients with significant value in the following areas:

Mark obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) from St. Francis Xavier University and articled with Coopers & Lybrand, earning his CA designation in 1992. Mark is a former member of the American Federation of Musicians and continues to donate his musical skill to fundraising for charities and church events.

Charles Mirsky began his career at District Realty in 2006 and served as both a Residential and Commercial Property Manager before his move to investment sales in 2008. Charles currently holds the position of Vice President Brokerage Services. Raised in Ottawa, Charles’ experience in both management and sales gives clients a unique perspective on Ottawa-area commercial properties. With over 14 years of experience in the Ottawa commercial real estate market, Charles’ investment expertise and Industry knowledge have demonstrated his brokerage talent by closing many sales in both the commercial and multi-residential sectors. Ken Halef began his career at District Realty in 2021 as the Director of Finance, later being promoted to the position of Vice President of Operations & Finance. As part of the executive team, Ken is responsible for the overview of the Property Management portfolio which includes financial reporting,  and management of operations at head office. Ken’s journey to the nation’s capital begins in Halifax, Nova Scotia where along the way, he’s held several senior management roles in both public accounting and private sector industries, gaining him an extensive knowledge of accounting, finance, and operations from several diverse settings.

Ken obtained his Bachelor of Commerce from Saint Mary’s University in 2011 and later earned his CPA designation in 2017. Ken is a former athlete, having won multiple national championships in Boxing. Outside of the office, Halef prioritizes his family and is a dedicated husband and father to wife Berna and daughters Leona and Levina. In his spare time, he enjoys supporting his daughters’ interests in taekwondo and dance classes.

Julia joined District Realty in August 2012 as a Senior Property Accountant. Julia brought with her five years of extensive experience in property management accounting when she joined District Realty. She is responsible for managing the financials of both residential and commercial properties, ensuring that they are prepared with accuracy and on time. Her attention to detail, skills, knowledge, and willingness to help all departments has led to her recent promotion to Manager, Property Accounting in early 2023. Julia is passionate about her work and takes pride in her contributions to the company.

Julia began her accounting career in the auditing field, but quickly found her passion in property management accounting. Her background in commerce and honours degree in accounting from the University of Ottawa, combined with her upbringing in a small town, where her parents owned and operated a restaurant, has helped her develop a strong foundation in the field.

Lujia joined District Realty in April 2019 as a Property and Payroll Accountant. With years of experience in property management accounting, she is responsible for preparing full-cycle financial reports for both Commercial and Residential properties. In addition, she manages the semi-monthly payroll for approximately 40 employees across various District sites. Lujia is deeply committed to her work and consistently upholds the highest standards of quality, reliability, accuracy, and integrity.

Serpil joined District Realty in February 2022 as an Accounts Receivable Associate. Her experience and knowledge in overall accounting were well recognized, and just three months into her new position, she was moved into Accounts Payable team and then promoted to Accounts Payable Manager in August 2022. She has more than ten years of experience in overall Accounting in the Wireless Networks, Manufacturing, and Home Construction industries. Her ability to see the big picture, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills make her a valuable team member at District. She is responsible for inter-company transactions and settlements and oversees all stages of Accounts Payable processing for accuracy and timely payment processing.

Darren has over 20 years of diversified retail real estate experience. He is also knowledgeable in the industrial, land, and office markets in the national capital area.
Darren began his commercial real estate career with Chambers Hall Real Estate in Hamilton, Ontario, where he was involved in many different sales and leasing transactions in the region. He relocated back to Ottawa, continuing his real estate career with a national real estate company.

Darren has concentrated on Landlord/Tenant representation assisting his clients to achieve cost-effective solutions for their business through market and lease analysis and ultimately negotiation on their behalf.
He is familiar with specific nodes for the particular fields such as industrial parks, office campuses, street fronts, power centres, strip centres as well as the regional malls. Growing up in Eastern Ontario, Darren has a complete understanding of the overall market and various business nodes in Ottawa and surrounding area.

Darren has also worked extensively, representing the Landlord side of the development equation giving him keen insight onto both sides of the leasing equation, thus making him an effective negotiator in delicate renewal negotiations for his many Landlord and Tenant clients.

Having been involved in the Nepean Minor Hockey Association and Ottawa South United Soccer Association, Darren enjoys most sporting activities, specifically hockey, rugby, and soccer.

Michael joined District Realty in 2007 with extensive experience in real estate management and leasing, including shopping centers, large office spaces, residential units, and industrial complexes. In 2022, he was promoted to Director of Commercial Properties. He currently manages the daily operations of a significant commercial portfolio, overseeing tenant and base building fit-ups, as well as contract management and is also a member of BOMA Ottawa where he has recently joined its Board of Directors. Michael grew up in Barrhaven and now resides in Orleans with his family. He enjoys coaching his daughter in soccer, is a big professional soccer fan, and enjoys traveling.

Simon joined District Realty in 2009 as a Building Operator before progressing to a Commercial Operations Manager, and currently holds the position of Commercial Property Manager. With extensive experience in a variety of industries, including retail, high tech, restaurants, and construction, Simon manages a large portfolio of commercial space. Simon’s primary responsibilities include overseeing day-to-day operations of individual properties, maintaining tenant-client relations, and ensuring efficient execution of all property ventures. In his previous role as a Building Operator, Simon also gained extensive experience in building maintenance for several properties in the District Realty portfolio. In his free time, Simon enjoys participating in community events across Ottawa, including HOPE Volleyball, the Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival, and the Ottawa Big Bike.

Kendrah joined District Realty in 2016 as the residential marketing coordinator. Kendrah brings with her over 20 years’ experience in customer service excellence, a strong work ethic and a commitment to personal & professional growth. Kendrah is responsible for keeping over 1500 apartment units full, and ensuring District Realty’s online presence is constantly maintained and improved. Kendrah completed the Digital Marketing Certificate through The University of Ottawa’s Telfer school of business and Soshal. –  The DMC certification gave Kendrah the tools she needs to ensure District Realty is ahead of the curve with all things digital.
